LORENTE & BARBA WINERY
LORENTE & BARBA WINERY
Mauricio Lorente and Julio Barba are two wine lovers from Jerez who continue their family traditions linked to the wine production sector for several generations. The germ of the winery were the soleras inherited from the Lorente family that came from the great-grandfather of the current owners. With these soleras, oenological jewels held for more than 100 years for three generations, Julio and Mauricio devised the current Lorente & Barba (L&B) winery in Jerez de la Frontera, Cadiz, at the south of Spain.
Although the company is young, the warehouse building is over 500 years old. It is built with very wide stone and brick walls, located in the intramural area that housed the first known wineries in Jerez. It is approximately one and a half meters below the street level and is built on a well from the Arab period that does not dry out even during periods of more severe drought.
This set of mentioned characteristics make this winery ideal for the ageing of Jerez wines under the Criaderas and Soleras system, not surprisingly, it is the oldest winery building that is still functioning as such. The winery makes the liqueur wines Lorente & Barba Fino, Lorente & Barba Oloroso, Lorente & Barba Palo Cortado and Lorente & Barba Pedro Ximénez (sweet) under the Jerez - Xérès - Sherry and Manzanilla of Sanlucar de Barrameda, Appellation of Origin.
