The winegrowing tradition of the Monastery estate lives on today through the seventh generation of the Ritter de Záhony family established in 1850 and created the Barone Ritter de Záhony winery. The entrepreneurial calling of Guido Federico Rossignoli – son of Claudio Rossignoli and Edda Cristina Ritter de Záhony, both of whom passed down to their children a dedication and fondness for the local land – today allows for the direct management of the estate, honoring the oldest of family traditions. Guided by passion and commitment, Guido Federico, alongside his sister Sabina, cultivates the values that have always characterized the personality of the Home. The prosperity of this beautiful land early on catches the eyes of the Romans who founded the city of Aquileia in 181 before Christ – today a UNESCO Heritage site – and who are the first to begin cultivating grapevines, aware of the natural potential of the area. Empress Giulia Augusta, wife of Ottaviano, had such an appreciation for the wine from Aquileia that she would have sent it to Rome. The Monastery estate today spans 130 hectares only a few kilometers from the Carnic Alps and nearby the seaside. Alluvial clay, rich in salt minerals, caressed in the wintertime by cold mountain winds and by the salty sea winds coming from the Grado lagoon in the summer, it allows to obtain grapes with an exceptional ripeness and extremely elegant wines with intense flavors. Ever since the Holy Roman Empire, grapevines have been growing on these lands, DOC vine varieties from Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Prosecco. Guido Federico planted non-local vine varieties, including Palava, in honor of the ancient Hungarian family properties. All the vineyards are certified by CEVIQ (Certificazione Vini Italiani di Qualità). They make among other the wines Barone Ritter de Záhony Chardonnay Barrel under the DOC - Denominazione di Origine Controllata Friuli Aquileia and the wine Barone Ritter de Záhony Edda Cristina Palava under the IGT Indicazione Geografica Tipica Venezia - Giulia.
